The million dollar question, how often should I post on my blog?
If you have been following my blog for some time or if you are a regular reader of topics related to inbound marketing, you will have verified that content is one of the most important points when it comes to drawing a good strategy . Having a blog or creating a channel in which to share content is essential to increase “the number of visits”.
But now you will ask yourself: how often should I publish content ? What is more important, the quantity or the quality ? Should I publish every week to keep the interest of my followers?
Well, in today’s article I will try to answer these questions, so you can develop an inbound marketing strategy that offers positive results and reaches the KPIs that you have marked.
Should I publish a lot or only when I have quality content to contribute?
All right. To answer this question, we must first think about the type of reader that visits our blog . However, we can not forget about Google and its wonderful algorithm, who loves fresh and new content. The frequency of publication must comply with the requirements set by the search engine, at the same time that it offers useful information of interest to the real people who will come to our page.
So, is it better to publish a lot of short content or little content but extensive ? Well the truth is that it will depend largely on what you are publishing. I explain. Google will evaluate positively (and, consequently, will improve your search rankings) if you create fresh content on a continuous basis .
But if what you write or share does not have enough quality , it will make visitors leave your page a few seconds after having accessed (consequence: you increase the bounce rate) or that they do not have transcendence (consequence: people do not share it in social networks). In both cases you are damaging the organic positioning and the visibility of your project.
From my point of view, what you should prioritize is, therefore, the development of complete texts , which answer the questions of your users. Rate how much time you can devote each week to the generation of content , and then divide those hours so that you dedicate a part to think about the type of texts that you are going to elaborate , another part to do a good investigation and to document and, finally , to write and layout .
If you follow these steps, you will see how articles of 400 words allow you to rank better than contents” long> of 2000, as long as you have hit the spot to be what users are looking for. Without prejudice, of course, that you can develop a post extensive of great quality, in which case the results will be even more positive.
To finish answering this first question, I want to point out just one small detail. Once you have established a publication routine , with an optimal frequency and according to your possibilities, it is important that you stay constant. This way, your readers will know what they can expect from your site (it is not the same 5 daily news, that a couple of them weekly) and you will not confuse Google when it comes to indexing your blog and helping you position .
How much time is usually spent on a good article for the blog?
We live in an era full of information. Every hour we are bombarded with hundreds and hundreds of messages: news, posts, videos, banners … So, how to differentiate between all these stimuli ? Neither more nor less than doing quality work .
This implies that, first you must know well who your target is , who are the people who buy your product or service. Once delimited, you must inquire about their tastes, hobbies and needs. Once this is done, you only have to answer your questions and encourage your interests.
There will be times when you will create a text quickly and smoothly , but in some cases you could even spend a full working day creating a high quality post , which really can not be found anywhere else: interviews, statements, photographs or videos they can accompany the text, thus creating even more value for the user .
You have to be very clear about your sources , which are of quality and that give you a first idea, a base on what to write. It is almost impossible to write an article with 100% quality content from scratch without investigating a bit. In fact, the entire research process will help you to know how you want to write your content, how to satisfy the user’s search” intention> and how you can differentiate yourself by improving what already exists.
With all this information gathering process, plus the creation of the text plus the layout of the article in the blog, you can imagine that writing a quality post will not take 20 minutes . In my case I can say that only the writing and layout of the post usually takes me between 2 hours and a full working day (with its 8 hours ). Even more than 8 hours, everything depends on the theme (if you have more or less mastered), the extension you want to give the article (what you want to deepen) and the time you want to devote to layout (images, icons, tables content…).
Maybe it’s the step that takes more time, and along with the writing of the article you can take from a couple to a whole workday, or even more.
My advice to post on your blog
Do not be in a hurry to publish a quick content just to comply with the publication dates. Dedicate to write a content all the time it deserves. Want a trick to avoid the rush? Have prepared a battery of articles written to be published progressively . This will ensure you comply with your publication calendar and you will ensure that all are reviewed, corrected and are of interest to the user .
You can go writing them little by little, when you see yourself looser of work and you can really dedicate time to write . Do not leave the writing of the post for just the day before its publication, you can always come up with new ideas , or things to modify. Give yourself a margin of error to make all the changes you consider before publishing. You have to be sure that the article has the necessary quality that your readers deserve.
As you can see, there is no standard answer on how much to publish on the blog . Once again, it will depend on your type of business, your needs, your budget … What you should have clear is that everything you publish must meet a goal , and that quality is paramount to generate content and improve positioning.
